David is a process-oriented, creative professional. He finds commonalities between disparate ideas, people and systems. Through his career roles, he has consistently been a problem solver, visual and verbal communicator.
He thrives in taking on and challenges with unclear answers that require fuzzy logic. Combining the abstract associations of a creative with the methodology of a scientist, David removes uncertainty from issues which then allows the team of subject matter experts to focus on the core issues.
As an empathic, David understands problems of all parties to a relationship — customers and business, employers and employees, vendors and suppliers. With the concerns of all sides in mind, he serves as an explainer and translator to reduce misunderstandings, friction and ultimately to help all parties find common footing.
David is the Founder and Creative Director of Birch Studio, a design and branding agency in business since 1996. He has decades of experience integrating creative and technical solutions to sticky problems. He is known for simplifying complexity.
He is also a Co-founder of EarthWork Collective: a group of facilitators, communicators, educators, and creatives whose mission is to co-create a world where people, planet, and organizations thrive.
David is an executive board member of Virginia Clean Cities, occasionally lobbies the US Congress on options for clean fuels and energy security, finds deep satisfaction on a mountain bike and outdoors with family and friends.
